Are You Scared of Building Your Personal Brand?
Are you scared of building your personal brand?
Scared of being seen?
Many of us are.
In fact, it’s one of the most common fears I see in the corporate world.
We become afraid to put ourselves out there. We think we’ll get torn down for our ideas or opinions. Imposter syndrome creeps up and we feel that if we truly show up as the expert that we’ll be exposed as a fraud. Or we become afraid that our deepest insecurities are all that our audience will see. That we’ll be scrutinised for things we can’t change.
I understand this fear.
It can be incredibly hard to get past the fear of standing out. After all, many of us spend our lives just trying to fit in.
We don’t want to stand out.
But I want to urge you to overcome this fear. Because personal branding built around your true strengths and expertise isn’t scary. In fact many people find that showing up authentically feels better than when they were hiding.
Instead of personal branding what you should be scared of is what happens if you don’t put yourself out there.
If you don’t put yourself out there you’ll remain stuck where you are now. You won’t be seen as a leader and you’ll continue to be overlooked for promotions despite all of the great skills and knowledge you bring to the table.
If you don’t put yourself out there you may never know which opportunities to take and you leave the growth and longevity of your career in the hands of others.
If you don’t stand in your spotlight you may never realise your full career potential.
Wouldn’t you rather be in control of your future?
Your personal brand is the key to that control.
It allows you to show up and be heard in the way that you decide.
You get to choose what you are known for, who knows your name, and you get to decide what impact your expertise will have on your industry.
You get to accelerate your career.
